Surya de Wit
HCPC and BAAT Registered Art Psychotherapist - working as a partner with Atrom Mindcare
Surya is a caring and compassionate individual who has spent 12 years in the care and art spaces. As an accomplished artist having hosted regular exhibitions and working professionally in care as a Deputy Manager, she moved onto combine these two passions and followed a career path in Art Therapy. Surya graduated from Goldsmiths University in 2023 with a master’s in art Psychotherapy.
As an art psychotherapist specialising in a 'Freudian' model, she can help clients navigate through various levels of trauma and help them to understand their past experiences as well as generational influences. Her approach is 'non-directive', allowing the client to guide each session into what will be most valuable for them. This could also involve working together to set suitable goals.
Surya provides sessions across multiple ages, and sessions are tailored appropriately.
She has vast experience working in educational settings ages 2-18, and care homes
specialising in mental health and learning disabilities.
Through this work Surya is apt at communicating with non-verbal individuals and has a deep understanding of how medical and mental impairments are impacting her clients.
Such conditions can include bipolar affective disorder, OCD, schizophrenia, autism, cerebral palsy, complex epilepsy and dementia. She is also trained in perinatal parent-infant art therapy, which can be useful for those seeking a whole family approach.
Surya loves to share her passion for art therapy and often hosts experiential group events in the local Walthamstow community for adults and families. She has found that this is a great way for people to see if art therapy is right for them.
