Damilola Ogunniyi

Community Mental Health Nurse

I am a highly experienced Community Mental Health Nurse and Senior Mental Health Professional with 15 years of experience working across the health and social care sector, supporting children, young people, and adults with a wide range of mental health and neurodevelopmental needs.

I have specialist expertise in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), with training and practical experience in UKAAN ADHD assessment, ADOS-2, and ADI-R/ADI-1 autism diagnostic assessments. I have completed supervised hands-on neurodevelopmental assessments within multidisciplinary pathways, contributing to comprehensive clinical formulations and diagnostic decision-making.

Throughout my career, I have developed strong skills in autonomous clinical decision-making, clinical leadership, staff supervision, risk management, safeguarding, medicines management, quality assurance, and multidisciplinary working. As a Non-Medical Prescriber, I have a particular interest in safe psychotropic prescribing, medicines optimisation, side-effect monitoring, and collaborative care planning.

I am experienced in working with individuals presenting with complex neurodevelopmental needs, challenging behaviour, aggression, comorbid physical health conditions, and mental health difficulties. My approach is compassionate, evidence-based, recovery-focused, and person-centred, with a strong commitment to promoting dignity, inclusion, independence, and positive outcomes.

I have a BSc (Hons) in Nursing from the University of West London and completed my Non-Medical Prescribing qualification at London South Bank University. My professional development also includes CBT-informed therapeutic skills, Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act training, dual diagnosis, safeguarding, child protection, PMVA/PSTS, life support, medicines management, and specialist neurodevelopmental assessment training.

I am passionate about improving the quality of care provided to people with mental health and neurodevelopmental conditions and about supporting individuals, families, and multidisciplinary teams through safe, holistic, and evidence-based clinical practice.
