Dr. Benson Abounu

Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Benson Abounu is a highly experienced Consultant Psychiatrist with over 20 years’ practice across NHS and independent sectors. He has specialist expertise in the assessment and management of neurodevelopmental disorders, including ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder, in both children and adults.

He has extensive experience across adult services, community and inpatient settings, specialist services, and CAMHS, frequently assessing complex presentations where ADHD and ASD coexist with eating disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, trauma-related conditions, and other psychiatric comorbidities. He is ADOS-2 trained and routinely undertakes comprehensive diagnostic assessments, differential diagnosis, and formulation-driven treatment planning, ensuring neurodevelopmental profiles are accurately identified and translated into practical, individualised care pathways.

Alongside his diagnostic work, Dr Abounu provides specialist input into medication management, psychoeducation, MDT care planning, and liaison with families, schools, GPs, and other professionals. His background in mental health law and long-standing consultant-level roles further strengthen his ability to deliver robust, defensible, and patient-centred assessments across the lifespan.
