Dr Jyothi Akula

Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Jyothi Akula is a Psychiatrist based in the South West of England. She began her career in psychiatry in 2002 and has worked continuously within the specialty for over 24 years, gaining extensive experience in the assessment and management of mental health conditions across a range of clinical settings.

She has worked in Adult Psychiatry with patients aged 18 and over since 2006. Since 2016, she has worked as a Locum Consultant Psychiatrist across both adult inpatient and community services. She also has specialist experience in Perinatal Psychiatry.

Dr Akula is an Affiliate of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and has represented SAS Psychiatrists within the South West Division. She has also worked as an SAS Tutor and delivered specialist study units for medical students within the Peninsula Deanery.

She is an Approved Clinician and holds Section 12 approval under the Mental Health Act.

Throughout her career, Dr Akula has maintained a strong interest in developments within psychiatric practice and the rapidly evolving area of neurodiversity. Following the completion of relevant training through her NHS Trust and the Royal College of Psychiatrists, she began running ADHD clinics in 2022.

She also completed autism assessment training through Newcastle University in 2022 and has since supported ADHD and autism assessments within multidisciplinary teams.
