Dr Sahfia Khanum

Psychiatry Higher Trainee

Dr Shafia Khanum is a Psychiatry Higher Trainee specialising in Learning Disabilities, with focused experience in ADHD assessment and experience in autism assessment across adult and learning disability populations. She holds MRCPsych, Section 12 Approval, and has undertaken UKAAN training in ADHD assessment and diagnosis.

Dr Khanum has developed strong experience in neurodevelopmental assessments through both NHS roles and independent assessment work. She has completed ADHD assessments for adults via the Right to Choose pathway, delivering structured diagnostic evaluations and comprehensive clinical reports supported by validated screening tools and detailed clinical history taking.

Alongside this, she has experience in autism assessment and management within both general adult and learning disability services. Her current role in specialist learning disability services involves completing initial assessments, diagnostic formulations, and ongoing reviews for individuals with neurodevelopmental needs.

 

Dr Khanum’s broader psychiatry training spans community, inpatient, and crisis services. This supports a strong understanding of co-existing mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and trauma-related presentations, which are often considered as part of neurodevelopmental assessments.

She takes a structured and thorough approach to assessment, with a focus on clear diagnosis, detailed reporting, and practical recommendations. Her approach is patient-centred, ensuring individuals feel supported, understood, and informed throughout the assessment process.
