Right to Choose

As a qualified NHS provider, Atrom Mindcare can offer NHS assessments (free of charge for patients) for ASD for adults registered with a GP in England via ‘Right to Choose’.

Choose where to go for ASD assessments

The "Right to Choose" is a legal right in England under the NHS Choice Framework that allows you to choose your provider for mental and physical health services. This includes assessments for ASD.

 

Why Choose Atrom Mindcare?

Atrom Mindcare is an accredited provider under the NHS Right to Choose scheme. We hold an NHS contract with the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care Board (ICB), offering fast, reliable ASD diagnosis and treatment services.

  • We are a Consultant led service which means all our assessments are led and supervised by expert Consultant Psychiatrists in the field.

  • Within 2 week of final assessment, a detailed report is generated for both you and your GP.

  • Flexible appointments with both face to face and online appointment options. We can also offer late evening and weekend appointments.

How to get an assessment through "Right to Choose"

Step 1: Take our online ASD AQ-10 screening quiz and download the results and take to your GP. You can take the quiz by clicking here.

Step 2: Talk to your GP: Book an appointment with your GP, take your AQ10 result to them and ask them to refer you to Atrom Mindcare under your 'Right to Choose' for ASD assessment. Only GPs can refer you to our service under NHS Right to Choose. You cannot refer yourself directly. For GPs to refer to us they need either

  • fill in the online referral form

  • Send the referral form in form of word document by email to atrommindcare.adultASD@nhs.net

  • Your GP will need to complete our referral form online or send a word form from an NHS primary care email address. We cannot accept referrals sent from a non-NHS email

  • In case they're not familiar with the 'Right to Choose' pathway, you can let them know that Atrom Mindcare is commissioned by NHS to provide these services. Our weblink is www.atrommindcare.om

 

We offer both online and face-to-face appointments. The suitability of an online appointment is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Process for Right to Choose assessment

Make a GP appointment and take your quiz results to the GP

Request your GP fill an online referral form or sending word form by mail to atrommindcare.adultASD@nhs.net

We will contact you upon receiving your referral to let you know if you can be assessed by us and send relevant forms to be filled in

 Upon receipt of completed forms, we will contact you and book the appointments.

You will have 2 appointments: Initial appointment with a Psychologist (60 mins) and a second appointment with a Consultant Psychiatrist (90 mins). You may have a 3rd telephonic appointment with the Psychiatrist if needed.

Diagnostic assessment and support plan report shared within 2 weeks of completion of assessment process.

Information for Patients

Patient Choice – Accessing ASD Assessment and Treatment

Under the NHS Right to Choose, patients in England have the legal right to choose their mental healthcare provider. This means if you're experiencing long waiting times for ASD assessment, you can select an alternative provider that meets NHS criteria, regardless of location within England.

  3. Your GP will need to fill in an online ASD assessment referral form or download, fill and send a word form by mail to atrommindcare.adultASD@nhs.net

  4. Once referred, your ASD assessment will be covered by the NHS.

Referral Process to Adult ASD Assessment 

The referral process to Atrom Mindcare for Adult ASD assessment through the NHS Right to Choose is straightforward.

How GPs Can Refer:
GPs can refer patients by filling in an ASD referral form, which is the preferred method for all referrals. GPs can also download and send the referral form by email to atrommindcare.adultASD@nhs.net.  We currently accept referrals from GP practices within England. Both face-to-face and virtual appointments are available to suit patient needs.

Important Details for GPs:

  • Referral can be done online by submitting the ASD referral form or alternately the GPs can send the form by mail to atrommindcare.adultASD@nhs.net. Please ensure that the patient has completed the AQ-10 questionnaire and deemed suitable for an assessment.  

  • ICB details must be included with the referral to ensure smooth processing.

  • We only provide Adult ASD services (18+).

  • We do not see patients with established Learning Disability

  • We do not see patients in crisis

  • We are a private service offering assessments only and treatment for co-morbidities will require to be managed via GP or patient's CMHT

Key Points:

  • Referrals can be made for any adult patient in England who is registered with a GP.

  • We will require the GP and ICB details to avoid processing delays for patients.

  • Face-to-face and virtual appointments are offered
